Keith Holmes and Barry Glovick of the Cat-Can-Do Racing Team were the duo to beat in their 40’ Skater for 2014 OPA season after taking four consecutive wins as well as the national and world championship title in the Extreme Class. But a new year brings a new season and the team will be more than ready to hit the water for 2015. “Right now, we’re just freshening up the graphics and we are converting our Sterling 1550 hp engines so they can run on ethanol, E-85 fuel. Hopefully we can get up to 1700 hp to 1800 hp out of them,” said Holmes, owner of Team Cat Can Do and founder of CK Motorsports based in Nunica, MI. While the 2014 season began a little slower than expected after losing an engine in the first race in Biloxi, they put their A-game on for the rest of the power season, taking the top spot at the popular Lake Race in the Lake of the Ozarks, The St. Clair River Classic, The Port Huron International River Classic and The Detroit River Race. “The Lake Race in the Ozarks was a great win after running with the extreme guys on flat water with a short course. It was a pretty crazy day,” said Homes. For Holmes and long-time throttleman Glovick, running up against top players such as teams CMS and Miss Geico, which utilize Mercury Racing’s 1650 hp turbo-charged powerhouses, is no easy feat. Yet, Glovick and Holmes take the competition in stride, quite literally. “The boat is pretty much competing in the 170 to 180 mph-range and those guys that run with Mercury Racing’s 1650 hp engines have a little bit of an edge on us,” said Holmes. “Our experience, however, helps balance that out and we make up for their speed in the turns so the competitors have to work a little harder to stay in front of us.” Racing together since 1994 with more than 200 races under their belt, it’s safe to say Holmes and Glovick will be making big wakes once again for the 2015 OPA season with a fresh look and more power. “This year it seems there will be some new boats out there competing, which makes for great racing. But we are looking at doing other series as well, perhaps in SBI or something that will also be beneficial to us,” said Holmes. Source: www.pokerrunsamerica.com; January 7, 2015.
